Professor Dr. Antonio Negro (1908-2010)
Prof. Antonio Negro was the most important Italian homeopath of the last century. He was a student of Nicola Pende from whom he acquired knowledge and studies of human bio-pathology and an admirable clinical malice. He studied homeopathy with Dr. Bisceglie and later at Dr. Vannier's school where his Italian clinical and bio-pathological experience enriched the teachings. His first homeopathic training was pluralist, but later he chose constitutionalist and unicist homeopathy.
After the beginning of World War II, he began teaching homeopathy to medical doctors and in 50 years was able to train a very large number of homeopaths. Thus, Italian homeopathic medicine together with its homeopaths is both the direct and indirect work of Antonio Negro. In fact a large number of homeopathic medical doctors were trained in three-year courses of homeopathic medicine held in Rome, Naples and Palermo and homeopathic clinics were opened in different parts of Italy.
In Italy, he ran constant clinical and academic activities with the support and cooperation of Dr. Alma Rodriguez and of the medical doctors of the Accademia Italiana di Medicina Omeopatica Hahnemaniana, of S.A.M.O. - Società Ambulatori di Medicina Omeopatica - of the Libera Università Internazionale di Medicina Omeopatica and of the Società Italiana di Medicina Omeopatica Hahnemanniana.
He was National Vice-President of the L.M.H.I. for several mandates and protected the purity and independence of the Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis from any form of trading contamination and fought for it to remain just as its Founders had wanted it be, that is, the link between all homeopaths all over the world and the bulwark of Hahnemann's homoeopathic medicine. In 1988, he received the title of Honorary Member of the Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis. At international level, his role was very important not only as L.M.H.I. Vice-President for Italy, but also for prolific contacts with the Argentine, Mexican, Austrian and Belgian Schools.
He was an intimate friend of Dr. T.P. Paschero and of Dr. P.S. Ortega. He had profitable relations of esteem and cooperation with the two great leading figures of homoeopathy, and with them gave masterly lectures during the courses held by the Accademia Italiana di Medicina Omeopatica Hahnemanniana and the L.U.I.M.O.
Dr. Negro and Dr. Paschero were linked by a close fraternal bond and by a very similar clinical homoeopathic training which gave great importance to patient history, while with Dr. Ortega, Dr. Negro re-elaborated what we know of Hahnemann's miasmatic theory.
As a man of profound knowledge and study of the Organon of Hahnemann, he was able to join the Master doctrine to the deep knowledge of the Materia Medica, adding the use of the Repertory in the mature years of his professional life.
The homoeopathic examination by Antonio Negro was the highest expression of classic homoeopathic theory and practice, and the choice of the homoeopathic remedy was based on the deep knowledge of human beings, observed and examined in their completeness of spirit, mind and body. Antonio Negro's medical examination was a medical practice of profound analysis and knowledge of human physiology, pathological anatomy and the homoeopathic Hahnemannian therapy. Therefore, not only the very large number of patients treated and healed by him, but also the numerous medical doctors who learnt the art of healing with homeopathy by being present at his examinations are grateful for this excellent synthesis.
Antonio Negro leaves a heritage of homeopathic knowledge of inestimable value in his clinical files, in his masterly lectures, in the collection of homeopathic texts, and in his writing which will now be kept by the Fondazione Antonio Negro www.fondazionenegro-archiviostorico.it.
